|
Answer: Some children can learn by using flash cards and memorization; others have a different learning style. Try getting CDs that have the multiplication facts set to music that children love to hear and repeat. Play the tape in the car and at home. These tapes can be found in educational stores, as well as on Amazon.com. One that I have used can be located at HappyMath.com.
Also try using computer games. Some children’s learning preference is "hands on" mixed with sound and visual effects. There are many games located on the computer. There are also commercial products such as JumpStart and Math Blaster by Vivendi Universal, and Snap! by Topics Entertainment, that focus on multiplication facts through interactive games that you can even play along with your child.
Another fun activity is to play dominoes with a special twist. Before you can put down your matching tile, you have to say the number of dots on each half and then multiply them. For example, two dots times three dots is six. If your child’s answer is correct, he can then place the domino down. If it is not correct, he picks another tile.
When all else fails, study with your child nightly on one table fact until he gets it correct. The old saying falls into place here: "Practice makes perfect."
